And for even more flexibility, explore our detachable bunk bed, cleverly designed to be separated into two individual single beds. Safety and Standards for Wooden Bunk Beds

At Petite Amélie, safety always comes first. The top bunk is not suitable for children under the age of 6. To prevent entrapment, always position the bunk bed against a wall or leave at least 23 cm of space around the upper bunk. All of our wooden bunk beds comply with the European safety standard EN 747-1:2012 + A1:2015, which covers stability, guard rails and ladder design.

We also recommend a minimum clearance of 50 cm between the top mattress and ceiling to allow children to sit comfortably and safely. In shared rooms, the youngest child should always sleep on the lower bunk. And if you’re parenting twins, why not take turns on the top bunk? It’s a fun way to keep things fair and strengthen their bond!

What Mattress is Best for a Wooden Bunk Bed?

When it comes to comfort, you have plenty of options — but mattress thickness is key. For the top bunk, we recommend choosing a mattress no thicker than 13–15 cm to ensure the safety rails remain effective. Opt for a breathable mattress to support good airflow and temperature regulation. It’s also important to choose a mattress that fits the bed frame snugly, ensuring both stability and safety.
